Elder Christofferson visited Riverside!

Letter from May 23

Good afternoon!

Yesterday, we went to a baptism with one of our investigators. It was for a man named Francisco Garcia. He is a little older and uses a walker to get around. He was so happy to be baptized! His wife is already a member and they are now preparing to be sealed together for eternity! In the program for his baptism, he had a picture of himself printed. He has a huge smile and just looks perfectly happy. Under the picture, he thanked us all for coming to his baptism and sharing this happy moment with him. The gospel brings promised blessings of happiness.

There was a couple days this week where we felt like we were running around like little chickens with our heads cut off. But somehow, everything worked out! We had a lot of appointments fall through, and a lot of members not answer our calls or call and cancel after already saying they could come visit people with us. There was 2 or 3 nights, when we had 2 appointments at the same time, and we just couldn't find the members to help us. Every time this happened, one of our appointments would call and cancel. I mean, it's not super great that our investigators canceled on us, it's actually not great at all! But my heart would've hurt if we couldn't see everyone we had planned to and they were waiting for us to come, and we just couldn't because we were in another cita (cita:appointment, it's faster that way). The Lord is leading us and guiding us, and is doing so much work in this area right now. We will continue working, and calling everyone! Just one piece of advice for you: If the missionaries call you, answer. Even if you have to tell them no. Just answer their call. It will help them out. Answer everyones phone calls, and call everyone! Make someone happy and give them a call.

On Saturday, Elder Christofferson visited Riverside! We had the opportunity to go and hear him speak. Three other general authorities came, and I am so grateful I got to listen to all of them! Being in the same room with 4 of the Lord's faithful servants leading and guiding the world wide church of Jesus Christ was wonderful! And then listening to their teachings and testimonies gave me the opportunity to learn more about the will of the Lord and allowed my testimony to grow. I know that Christ lives and that he leads and guides his church today. He called 12 apostles when he was on the earth and gave them the power and authority to guide the people, and that power and authority is restored! He has called 12 apostles and a prophet to lead us, and teach us how to return to Him and our Heavenly Father. The church of Jesus Christ is on the earth once again, and will be for the day that he comes back.

Learn more about the gospel, have faith, and follow God's commands. You are promised happiness.

Have a wonderful day!
Love,
Hermana Sager

"I'm not too old??"

Letter from May 16

Hello!
I'm happy. So I hope you all have a smile on your face. Because if you're sad, then stop it. Be happy. Heavenly Father loves you. I love you. Have the best day ever!

We've kept ourselves very busy wizzy. We were constantly going, and we saw a lot of success. We asked multiple times why Heavenly Father loves us so much. But then we remembered, and it's simply just because we're His daughters. He loves you so much too. Share your testimony and help others feel of His love, and you will feel it even stronger in your own life!

This week, we contacted a referral for a woman named Kristina. She is so old and cute. We showed her the #aleluya video and she really liked it. We had talked about how she will grow her desire to follow Christ and to be baptized to follow his example and she continues learning from us. She says, "Ojala." Which also means, "I hope." Just a few minutes later, Hermana Rasmussen invited her to be baptized and her response, "I'm not too old??" NO! She said she would think about it. Her parents were members, some of her siblings and members, and her daughter. I know Heavenly Father led us straight to her, and that she could be joining her family, and be one step closer to being with them for eternity!

We are also working with another family, called the Cortez famliy. There are 6 of them, and they love having us over. We can normally tell when people love us, because they will give us food and things. They made a wet squishy corn bread for us, that actually tasted pretty good. The 17 year old son has been chosen as a team leader, and he gathers the family together at 7:00 every night to read the Book of Mormon. They are doing it! They are learning. The grandma is sick right now, so that is preventing them from coming to church, but they want to grow closer together and they want to know if this is what God wants for them.

As we have seen this team leader technique work with a family who aren't members of the church, I want to invite you to do it! Who's the team leader? Who is going to be responsible in gathering the family together every night to read from the Book of Mormon? Even if it's just 5 verses every night. I can promise you that you will be able to learn more about the Book of Mormon. Because if you don't understand something, you have other people to ask! Or it gives you a time to share your testimony with the family. Will you do it?

I recently started the Book of Mormon de nuevo, and this time around, I am focusing more on the principles and ordinances of the Gospel. As I've been doing so, I have been able to learn so many new things and see how the scriptures really relate to my life. Like I knew it before, but now It's like I'm learning so much more! The past couple days, I have been reading about Nephi and how he saw the vision that his father saw. It talks a lot about the scriptures, and it's just further proof of how the Bible and the Book of Mormon work together to testify of Christ. I love the scriptures. I know that God is trying to teach me and talk to me, and that he does so through the scriptures. As the families we are teaching keep the commitment of reading from the Book of Mormon, my heart and my testimony grow. Heavenly Father is too good to us. I love Him.

You're all great.
Love,
Hermana Sager

Happy Mothers Day and Transfers!!

Yesterday we had the chance to Skype with Sid  it was amazing!!  This was by far easier than the Christmas Call. It was easier to hang up knowing that the next time we talk to her it will be in person!! She has only 7 months left, she feels it is not enough time. We feel like it needs to come sooner!!    Miss her like Crazy. but am so proud of what she is doing.

Letter from May 9

Hello! I hope you had a the best mothers day ever! And can you believe Ive been  out for 11 months!!

TRANSFERS! I'm starting my 9th transfer, and I will be staying here in Perris! Hermana Rasmussen is coming here, and we will be companions again! It's going to be great! I loved the time I had with Hermana Visick. But she's onto bigger and better things in Moreno Valley.

Crackers, the dog I live with, had the chance to study with us this week. Kristy, the lovely woman that we live with, brought Crackers to our room one morning, and left him to study with us. Before leaving she told him, "You be a good little Mormon dog and study with the missionaries!" Crackers is a mormon dog. He knows it, he lives it, he loves it.

Yesterday, one of our investigators came to church! Afterwards, I had asked him what he learned. He said he didn't learn anything new, but that he felt good and welcomed. Sometimes when we go to church, we don't learn anything new. But when we put in our part, we can feel the spirit, testifying of the things we already know. We feel good. We feel loved. We grow our testimonies constantly, when we are going to church, reading the scriptures, praying, and striving to become more like Jesus Christ. So keep going! If you don't feel like you are learning, just know that you are loved.

So the members are continuing to help us more with the lessons. It has been wonderful! This week, when our investigator came to church, the member we brought to his house during the week, was so excited to see him, and ran right up to him to greet him. It was really cool to see the members welcoming him, and making him feel like part of the ward. He was participating in the class, and ending up staying for all 3 hours, even though he had only planned on staying for 1. He had felt the spirit, and wanted more. When church had finished, he was talking to us in the hall, and greeting everyone that walked by with a handshake. He took home the Gospel Principles book so he could study for the next weeks lesson. So he should be coming back, and he will continue to feel welcomed! Involving the members in the Lord's work, has a bigger benefit than the missionaries just visiting people. When members are involved, they can make friendships and relationships that will keep people active in the church after being baptized. So greet new people at church, and love everyone! They will feel God's love and want to come back!

While reading in 1 Corinthians 2, I read and loved these verses:

"1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified."

To share the gospel, we don't need to know everything, or have to be amazing at teaching and speaking. We need a testimony of God, and His Son Jesus Christ. I know that God is our loving Heavenly Father and His Son is the Savior and Redeemer of the world. I know that you know it too. Share your testimonies with everyone!

Have the best day ever!
Love,
Hermana Sager

Letter from May 2

11 Months. WEIRD! It can't be real, can it? Nahhh.
I will continue putting in practice what I learn every single day. I will get better! I will be happier. I will be able to serve with all my heart, might, mind, and strength.

On Friday, we watched the video of the Restoration twice! We had planned to share it with a less active family and an investigator. Unintentionally, we planned to see both of them the same night. It was so great! As I was able to sit and watch the story of Joseph Smith, having the lesson focused on different people. I received a confirmation of the truthfulness of the restored gospel. I know that Joseph Smith was called as a prophet of God. I know that our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ appeared to him, and continued to guide and direct him after this experience. I know that the gospel of Christ is restored to the exact way that he established and taught it. I know that it is through the restored priesthood power and ordinances of the gospel, that we can return to Heavenly Fathers presence with our families for eternity. I invite you to prayer to Heavenly Father and ask him if these things are true. Even if you already know, or have already done it. Do it again! Heavenly Father was give us a confirmation of the truth every time we are searching for it.

Yesterday, I killed a very large spider. Very large. We walked into the house of some of the members, and one of the grandkids is pointing at the ground in the dining room saying spider. No one say everything, until we looked really closely. Right at the leg of the table, there was a spider that was bigger than a quarter. I tried to step on it, but it ran! It was hiding under the table, and no one could see it. When I finally spotted it, I asked for the shoe that Hermana Visick was holding, and I slayed the terrible spider! It was so large. The family now trusts me and said they would call me next time they see another one.

This same family, the Bermudez family, the gave us a referral to visit their grandpa. The other night, when we went to go visit him, the family was there! It was so funny. The grandma opened the door and we see Alvaro behind her. They let us in and we were able to share the Hallelujah video with all of them. It was so unexpected to have them there, but I'm glad that they were! They can help in the missionary process and will be encouraging their grandpa. I am grateful that we have received more referrals from the members lately. Members are giving us the information of their family and friends, and they are so excited when the nonmember friends and family actually like what we have to share with them. Of course they will like it! What we are sharing is centered on our Savior and the way that he has provided for us to return to our Heavenly Father. Continue working with the missionaries to help them visit other friends and family that we have. Everyone needs the opportunity to accept the gospel. Even if they say no, you are still doing your part and showing your effort and love to Heavenly Father. You are all great, and are wonderful missionaries!
I know that you are all some of the greatest people on this human earth and I love you all!

Have the best day ever!
Love,
Hermana Sager
