Letter from April 11

Hola Amigitos.
You're all great.

One thing that I miss very much about home life, is being able to wear socks and shoes every day if wanted. Girly shoes are just not ideal for all types of everything. Like when it is cold and rainy. But luckily, there was a few days this week when I was able to wear socks and rain boots! It was wonderful! So, don't take advantage of being able to wear socks and shoes.

Since it was raining this week , we were able to go door to door tracting again! Except the areas that we were walking in, had a lot of gates, and a lot were locked or had ferocious dogs. So we went door to door as far as the house protection required.. But it's so fun! It is definitely a lot harder to try to start a normal conversation when you are the one knocking on their door, rather than just starting a conversation as they are out in their yards. But it's great. It makes me think of how I would react if someone where to try and start up a conversation with me at my door. Since I have experienced being on this side, I hope to be a friendly and patient person once I am on the other side. So be nice and friendly when people knock on the door, it makes them happy.

This week, we visited a family who was baptized in December! They have such a desire to keep the commandments and continue learning. The Hermana told us a story that went like this. Last weekend for conference, they were at home watching it on tv. A friend of the Hermana had come over and wanted to take them out to eat and have fun. The two little boys, 11 and 9, quickly told their mom about how they need to keep the Sabbath Day holy, every week, and how they could not go out with this friend. The mom was surprised, but then grateful that her boys are willing to stand up for what they know to be true, and help others to remember it too. They are a great little family and I love them. We talked more about our purpose here on earth, and how we continually need to learn of the gospel to prepare ourselves to stay in God's presence. Don't let anything get in the way of you and your ability to keep the Lords commandments. Stand up for what you know, and love what you do. Live the gospel and remember the atoning sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ.

We had exchanges this week with our Sister Training Leaders. Hermana Burris, from the MTC, is one of ours, and I was lucky enough to spend the day with her! I had only seen her twice since the MTC because she has been in the North side of the mission. But spending the day with her was so fun! I went to Moreno Valley for the day. While there, I had Chick fil a, and then a Tenorito for dinner. A tenorito is a burrito that has been wrapped in bacon and fried, made by the Tenorio family. It was so wonderful, that I think they should open up a shop and sell Tenoritos for the rest of their lives. If I ever serve in Moreno Valley, I will greatly look forward to the days when I get to have a tenorito again. But until then, I will continue to enjoy the food that all the lovely Hermanas are giving us here. Anyways, Moreno Valley is great, Hermana Burris is great. But I know that I am supposed to be serving her in cute little Perris, with the wonderful, beautiful, intelligent Hermana Visick! She is a great missionary.

I saw a youtube video this week that I guess has made it pretty big! One of the members showed it to us, after we had heard a sufficient amount about it. Those two boys singing a missionary parody to Adelles song? We had heard that it was getting a lot of views and then it made it on Fox News! It wouldn't be such a big deal in our little realm of missionaries here... But the tall one who is singing the entire time is my Zone Leaders Brother! So, whenever we see him, he slips his line "My brother is famous" anywhere possible. I love that this little video is getting so many views and is on the news. It is a great way to share a simple testimony and let some other people know a little bit more about the work that we do!

Letter from April 4

Good afternoon!

You know what is unforgettable? The 10 months that I have had as a missionary! If you can't believe it, neither can I! Double digits. According to Disney Land, I was an adult at age 10. According to mission life, I still feel like a little baby. Every day I am learning more about how to become a better missionary. Every day I think I have the hang of everything, and then I learn something else that I need to change. But I know that each and every day, I am stepping in the right direction to become the person that God wants for me. I know that as we are continually repenting and stepping in the right direction with patience, we will do all things possible through Christ! Let's just pray that the next 8 months goes by slower. I have a lot to learn, and time simply just goes too fast.

How was your Holiday weekend?! Which holiday? General Conference! Yay!
The speakers were wonderful. The music was wonderful. The cute grass and purple flowers were wonderful. All of it! Such a spirit could be felt from the simple and sincere testimonies of each person who talked. I love and sustain the leaders of the church. As we were inviting a family to come to conference with us, the dad kept asking why we worship a man. As we explained to him the prophet is the mouthpiece for God on the earth, I felt the spirit testify of the truth of this. Just like in times of old, God has placed a prophet on the earth today! God is speaking to us, and we should want to listen to what he has to say. We worship and adore Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. We strive to follow them and learn of their teachings. As we listen to Thomas S. Monson and the general authorities, we learn of what we need to do in every day life. In the little book, True to the Faith it says, Your greatest safety lies in strictly following the word of the Lord given through His prophets, particularly the current President of the Church. So, choose the harder right and not the easier wrong! You will stronger feel the love of God and his protection has you humbly follow the words of the prophet.

Letter from March 28

Hello! I hope you all had the greatest Easter, and that you ate peeps until you popped!

For my 8th transfer, I will be staying in Perris with Hermana Visick! We're so excited and hope to continue helping all the people we're working with, and continue learning from each other.

Easter here was great. I was telling Hermana Visick yesterday how great all the Holidays are when you are a missionary, but then I thought about it, and then realized that the holidays can be so great as long as you are just focusing more on the real reason for why we have those days. The Resurrection of our Savior is one of the greatest gifts that he and our Heavenly Father has given us. Because of his resurrection, we have the ability to return to the presence of Heavenly Father. I know that as we are remembering Christ in todos momentos, and striving to keep all of his commandments, we can make the best of all the days, holiday or not. We will also be doing the things we need to in order to stay with our Heavenly Father after returning to him. I know that Christ lives, yo se que vive mi Senor, and that he loves us!

So as a missionary, you get used to hearing the same excuses for all the different questions and commitments. When you ask people "Who do you know that needs the hope and light of Christ in their life?", no one knows their neighbors. When you ask "What day works best for us to visit with you and your family?", no one is ever home at any time. And when you ask "Will you follow the example of Christ and be baptized?" everyone has already been baptized. This week, we received a couple different responses for this last question. One investigator said, "Yes, I know that it is a commandment of God." Another said, "I am allergic to water" and the other, "Yes, but I don't want to drown!" I was so glad to hear some new answers for this question, and I know that as we continue to ask these questions with sincere desire to help these people, then we receive different answers.

Testimonies!!

Hello!

Last night, we had a member out with us to help with some appointments. It went great. She was a great friend and help during the lesson, sincerely wants to help the families and people progress and to come unto Christ. While we were in the car, she was telling us a story. It was a story that ended with, "I'm from the hood, Sistah!" I lost it. It was so funny. I think we can all agree that stories that end in this way, are bound to be great and mystifying stories. But besides that fact. As she shared her testimony during the lesson, you could feel the power of the spirit testifying to the family. Sincere testimony invites the Spirit. 

Another lesson that we had with this same family earlier on in the week was awesome! We taught a little more about the Book of Mormon and read from the first Chapter with them. It was a 16 year old and a 10 year old, both boys. They were able to understand what Nephi was talking about, and they thought it was a pretty cool way to start a book. We only read half of the chapter, so they made a promise to read the second half. When they had committed to do this, we asked them why they wanted to read the Book of Mormon. Luis, the 16 year old, said, "To gain a testimony." Just like Moroni, we promised him that he would gain a testimony of Christ and his gospel, and the Book of Mormon as the word of God if he put in the effort to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it. To gain anything requires effort. To gain a testimony requires sincere desire, study, prayer, and patience. I know the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ, and that a testimony of this book, can start your testimony of all other things. 

I hope you had a great St. Patricks day. Enjoy this week and have a great Easter! Remember all that Christ has done, is doing, and will do for you. I know that he was resurrected, so that we could live in God's presence again if we are clean and worthy.

Letter from Mar 14

Hello every one! Happy Pi day! Hope it's the best one yet.

We are working with this one family who are super cool. Their name is the family Espinosa. We had a few lessons with them last week, and they committed to coming to church. When they didn't actually come, we knew we had to try and help them understand the importance of why they need to come to church. We had a lesson with them again last night, and we had 2 members from the ward with us. It was an Hermana and her son. The Hermana was really trying to help Momma Espinosa, and really trying to reach out to be her friend. She invited her to a Relief Society activity this weekend and even offered to pick her up. After doing so, we asking the son, what they were doing for Young Mens this week, and then he offered to pick up the son to take him bowling with all the boys. The Espinosas really opened up, and both accepted the offer! I know that they will now feel more comfortable to come to church, and the help of the members was more than we could've done ourselves! I am so grateful that every member is truly a missionary, and that we are all working together to further the Lord's work.

There are a lot a lot of members in this ward that I am serving in, but not a lot of the list actually go to church. So the ward is doing a Ward Rescue. Every Wednesday night, a group gets together, and we go and visit a whole bunch of less active members, to see if they still even live there. It's a really cool idea! This week, we were sad to find out that some of the members had moved, but we were able to find a family who is willing to listen in the same house! It's a really cool little idea, and it's a great way to strengthen the Lord's kingdom here on the earth. I want to find everyone and invite the all back to church! A less active that we have been visiting, who hasn't been to church in months, came yesterday. It's so great seeing those who have already made covenants and promises with God, start the process of renewing them weekly.

Here's a scripture that talks about the scriptures that I really like. 

 4 For, for this intent have we written these things, that they may know that we knew of Christ, and we had a hope of his glory many hundred years before his coming; and not only we ourselves had a hope of his glory, but also all the holy prophets which were before us.

The life of Christ was prophesied many years before he came, and the same is true with his second coming. Because of the words of the prophets, we have a hope through the glory of Christ. We know that he is the Savior of the World, and that he lives, so we can live with him again.

Pascua

Letter from Mar 7 Hello. Como estan?

I hope you are having a great day and that March has already started off so well.

This month of March is very special, because we will be having la Pascua! Also known as Easter. The church is coming out with another video to help us remember Christ and his Atonement. It comes out on Sunday, so be waiting and watching, and ready to share! I have already seen it, and I really like it. It is a great reminder of the gift of resurrection, that is possible through our Savior Jesus Christ. I can't wait for all of you to see it and tell me what you think! I would love to hear your testimonies after having watched this video.

Hump day happened, also known as the terrifying middle day of the mission. I can't believe it has gone by this fast, and I just hope and pray that the second half will slow down! But either way, I still love it here, I still am so happy, I still want to be here, and I don't want to be doing anything else. I am so grateful for the 9 months that I have had to dedicate to the Lord and his work. I know that his work continues to go on in every moment, and we just have to make the choice to work! All of us are working together to accomplish the Lords work, which is to invite ALL to come unto Christ, to learn of how they can truly become clean from their sins through the principles and ordinances of the restored gospel of Christ, to be able to stay in the presence of our Heavenly Father after meeting him face to face. I know that this is true, and I know that I want to do all that I can to help others to receive this eternal blessing.

Hump day/Half way  Surprises  for Hermana Sager and Visick

This week, we had exchanges with our Sister Training Leaders, which are Hermanas Rasmussen and Vorkink! At the end of the exchange, Hermana Rasmussen and I met back up with Hermana Vorkink and Visick at the stake center in Menifee. There was also another exchange meeting back up that consisted of Hermanas Gomez and Rutherford and their companions! So altogether, I was in the same place with 5 of my companions! The only one that was missing was Hermana Babb (you're not forgotten <3)!! It was so exciting! I have had the greatest companions in the entire mission. I love them all. I have learned so much from every one of them, and have loved working with them.

Letter from Feb 29

I hope you all are wonderfully fantastic on this perfectly beautiful day.

Today is Febrero 29. Happy Leap Year day. I hope it's the best one! Because we don't get another one for quite some time. That also means that there are just 2 more days, before the day that is exciting but slightly terrifying. That would make it the 3rd of Marzo, which makes it 9 months of being away from your lovely faces and laughs, and 9 months of serving the Lord full time. Time goes so quickly! How bout, on this day, I only plan to make my bed half way, eat half of everything, only say half of my sentences, and only drive half way to everywhere we have to go.

Today, we had crossfit at the stake center in Menifee. It was difficult. But fun! And also in Menifee, is a Panera Bread, where we wanted to eat lunch. So we brought our clothes to change into, so we could do that after. I brought all the clothes that I needed, I just didn't bring shoes. Safe to say, we made a sock wearing trip to the nearest Payless to buy me some new shoes before we headed off to lunch. Hermana Visick told me to just wear my tennis shoes with my skirt.. I have some nice new black shoes that have a wonderful story behind them. Grateful for easy access to Payless!

So this week, we spent a day in the far corner part of our area, we were are trying to find more people. As we were over there, we knew we didn't have very many people to visit. We had prayed that Heavenly Father would help us to know the people we needed to see, and that he would provide us with people sufficient for all the time we had planned in that area. As we were out working, we received 2 referrals of people who just happened to live in that area! We were not slow to recognize the Lord's hand as he answered our prayers and provided us with people to visit. We are so grateful for his guidance in our lives and especially in His work.

This week, I read a scripture that I have found before, and I know we all have. But it's a nice reminder of the things that we constantly need to be doing.
1 Nephi 7:12    "Yea, and how is it that ye have forgotten that the Lord is able to do all things according to his will, for the children of men, if it so be that they exercise faith in him? Wherefore, let us be faithful to him."
As we go through each and every day, it can be easy to forget to think about Jesus Christ at all times. But we need to ask ourselves, how is it that we have forgotten that the Lord is able to do all things? As we are focusing more on the blessings that we have received every day, we will be able to exercise our faith. As we are remembering him and completely trusting on him and his will, we will be able to see more blessings and will know the things that we need to do, to repent daily. I have seen this to be true, especially on the hard days. When nothing is going as planned, we just need to take a minute to stop and think about all that He is continuing to do for us. I promise that as you do so, you will be able to strengthen your faith in our Savior, and you will have the desire and ability to align your will more with His. So, let us be faithful to him.
